About Basho
A Simple and Quick Location Memo App
Basho is an iOS app that lets you save your current location with one tap add notes, and review your saved places later.
When walking or traveling by train, bus, or other transportation, you may come across something interesting—a building, a shop, or a place that catches your attention—and later find yourself wondering:
“Where exactly did I see that?”
"I wish I had taken a picture!"
Basho was created to help you quickly save those places you want to remember later, right when you find them.
For moments when you discover an interesting place or a mysterious building.

How Basho Differs from Typical Logging Apps
Minimal Impact on Battery Life
Location data is only obtained when you tap the button.
Because Basho does not continuously track your location in the background, it is designed to minimize battery consumption.
Your Data Is Stored in Encrypted Form
Saved records are encrypted using your passphrase and stored in your own iCloud account.
Under normal circumstances, no third party—including the developer—can view the contents of your saved data.
Notes and Maps for Each Record
You can add notes to each saved location.
Each record also supports its own map view and Look Around, making it easy to review what was recorded later.

Combined with Face ID, you can save your location immediately after unlocking - Protect your saved records with an additional lock to help keep them private
- Share saved locations through social media or messaging apps
Security and Data Recovery
Basho encrypts all saved records using your passphrase.
Your data can only be decrypted and viewed when the correct passphrase is entered.
Because of this design, no third party—including the developer—can normally access your saved data.
If You Forget Your Passphrase
You can reset your passphrase and recover your data using the Recovery Key generated during the initial setup.
Important
If you lose your Recovery Key, your saved data cannot be recovered.
Please make sure to store it safely, such as in a secure note or as a screenshot kept in a safe place.
Limitations
- Because location data is obtained only when tapped, the position may be less accurate compared to apps that continuously track location
- In places such as trains or environments affected by magnetic interference, the phone’s orientation may not be recorded accurately
- In poor signal conditions, the recorded location may be significantly inaccurate or unavailable

Privacy Policy
Basho (hereinafter referred to as “the App”) respects user privacy and handles collected information appropriately.
1. Information We Collect
When the user performs a location recording action, the App may collect and store the following information:
- Current location data (latitude and longitude)
- Date and time of the record
- Approximate address of the recorded location
- Device orientation and direction of movement
- Positioning accuracy (error information)
- Notes voluntarily entered by the user
The App does not collect information that directly identifies an individual, such as name, email address, phone number, or similar personal details.
2. Purpose of Use
The collected information is used solely for the following purposes:
- Recording and viewing location data by the user
- Adding and reviewing notes for each record
- Synchronizing data across devices using the same Apple ID
- Displaying maps and Look Around views
3. Data Storage and Encryption
All saved records are stored in encrypted form using the passphrase set by the user.
Encrypted data may be stored and synchronized on the user’s iPhone and via iCloud.
Under normal circumstances, no third party—including the developer—can access or view the contents of the saved data.
4. Passphrase and Recovery Key
The App uses a passphrase to protect saved records.
If the passphrase is forgotten, data recovery can be performed using the Recovery Key generated during the initial setup.
If the Recovery Key is lost, the saved data cannot be recovered.
Users are responsible for securely managing both their passphrase and Recovery Key.
The developer does not retain this information and cannot provide data recovery support.
5. Third-Party Disclosure
The App does not provide the user’s location data, notes, or other saved records to any third party.
However, this does not apply when the user voluntarily shares data using the operating system’s sharing features.
6. Sharing Features
When the user uses the sharing feature, the App generates shareable text that may include the recorded location information.
This shared content may contain map links indicating the recorded location, including Google Maps URLs where applicable.
Such information is generated and sent only when the user explicitly performs a sharing action.
The App does not send location data to any third-party service without the user’s action.
